HOUSE MUSIC
A reflection of the house music community in Bangalore.
House music found its origins in Chicago’s underground clubs in the early 1980s. It is a genre of electronic dance music that was originally associated with the African American LGBTQIA+ community. The house music and dance scene created a safe and progressive space for people of different backgrounds and orientation.

At the time, this particular genre celebrated and encouraged integration, becoming a form of protest for communities that were suppressed. This message of unity and positivity carries forward to the present day and age as well. A strong underground community exists in India that celebrates the power and positivity of house music. In Bangalore, there exists a growing community of DJs, dancers and followers of house that are influencing the music scene in the city.

Following the movement in the 1980s, the concepts of Peace, Love, Unity and Respect (PLUR) spread for the cultures that developed out of house music in the 1990s. This message that house music represents is cherished by the artists in Bangalore creating a unique and inclusive space for people of all kinds to come, let loose and enjoy the freedom that house music presents.
