Old -school vibing

Objects that we see around us are a replica of history, just in new forms. All things retro is an updated version of something from the past but retain the characteristics of their antiquity. Culture is constantly recycling the past and bringing it into a new and improved look in the present. Like they say, “Old is gold”; when we use the term “retro”, we tend to focus on the culture of bringing back trends, fashion, music, cars, or attitudes of the good old days that no longer seem relatable to the modern world.

When it comes to styling, one should mix and match with colors, prints, and patterns; the idea is to get creative and boost someone’s lazy-day-outfit into a ramp-ready-look. Incorporating bell sleeves, lace, red lipstick on top of baggy jeans, a wide belt, and a shirt with polka dots can turn the look into a trendy retro outfit. Another great way of adding some essence to one’s retro look is by pairing them with hoop earrings; whether they are thin and sleek or studded in gemstones—leave the same effect.

One can never go wrong with denim; whether it is baggy, acid-washed, printed, or color. Denim is a great way of enhancing one’s lazy-day-outfit into NYFW (New York Fashion Week) ready. Corduroy pants, shoes, shirts, skirts are always a favorite.

Aritra Roy, an aspiring fashion blogger says, “Corduroy is my personal favorite. While I was growing up, I used to often see my grandfather wearing Corduroy pants with checkered shirts; he would occasionally pair them with funky bowties or neckties. My father had a fascination for suspenders and converse shoes, and my mother for geometric patterns, oversized t-shirts, and denim. It’s often said that the kind of fashion you follow is often because of the type of clothes you see people wear around you. I found myself drawn to retro culture due to several other reasons like my taste in music, movies, and books- most of which were classics.”
